Lokhandwala Township in Kandivli(East), Murnbai has a large population of Bengalees, who are engineers, IT professionals, bankers, chartered accountants, businessmen and other professionals. Bengali-speaking people residing in the township are naturally drawn together as in a big family.

| Association organized its first cultural event, Shree Shree Saraswati Puja in February 1998. Same year, Shree Shree Kali Puja was also celebrated. In the year 2002, the Association was formally named as KRISHTI. In 2005 the first-ever Shree Shree Durga Puja was celebrated with great fanfare. In keeping with Bengal's culture, events like Rabindra and Nazrul Jayanti, Barsha — Mongol are regularly held. The way KRISHTI has showcased Bengal's culture and Puja celebrations has won the hearts of all communities in the township. In 2006 KRISHTI was registered under the Registration of Societies Act. The same year KRISHTI acquired its own premises in the township. KRISHTI has been admitted as a Public Trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. Over 300 Bengalee families of the township are closely associated with KRISHTI. A telephone directory of members is published every year. | ||
| The characteristic features of KRISHTI are its focus on the Bengali families residing within the township, promotion of greater bonding with one another as a large family and planned programmes to foster Bengalee language, literature and culture.
KRISHTI maintains close contact with similar associations, namely, Punjabee, Sindhee and Malayalee associations to engender better quality of life in the township. |
